Description
This is a view of the western sky about an hour after #1896 "Howling Cold Front". The blustery southwesterly winds were still churning up the lake. White caps highlighted the Langmuir streets in the frenzied surface of the lake. The colour of the water was churned into a brown stain. It was a "five chair" wind event with winds gusting to 35 knots tipping over the heavy, recycled plastic chairs. The wind sheared tops of another row of towering cumulus were evident to the northwest.
I was in the studio on the Ides of March to do this painting. The cold air flooding behind the cold front would be the set up for the storm which was currently keeping me in the studio. The title comes from the story of Julius Cesar and "beware the ides of March" which was made most notorious as it was the date of his assassination in 44 BC.
