Description
This is number thirty-seven of forty-six in the Canoe Lake Paddle as numbered along the path of the paddle. I had paddled northward into a shallow bay leading to a larger wet land beyond a series of beaver dams. The presence of the wetland could be inferred from the absence of nearby trees. The cabins and structures belonging to Camp Ahmek were starting to sprout on the eastern shoreline of this small bay. I like to do strong jabs of colour in almost every painting.
"Ahmek" as after the Ojibwa name meaning "Great Beaver", was also the Ojibwa name Taylor Statten selected for himself. The chance meeting between Taylor Statten and Canoe Lake occurred in 1912 while on a family vacation in Algonquin Park. One never knows where a chance meeting might lead if you are prepared to take a chance. In this case it lead to the boys and girls camps on Canoe Lake.
