Description
This is number forty-two of forty-six in the Canoe Lake Paddle as numbered along the path of the paddle. This cottage island lies just off the eastern shore of Canoe Lake about a kilometre south of Camp Ahmek. I do not know the name of this small island. There was no name on any of the maps that I could find. It was not large but it would have been beautiful and private. The 21 metre water on the west side of this island would hold fish for sure. Solar energy would make this a year around home for me...
The feel of the painting is a strong function of the smooth but textured surface, the bold strokes and the aging oils. I was still working with the original palette of paint from several weeks before. Some of the oils were getting gooey. I was just adding new pigments as I needed them. Waste not, want not... I used a lot of paint on this small and very slippery surface. I simply laid the oils in and tried to leave them alone - continued stroking of the paint would turn the oils into mud. I scratched my signature into the wet paint with a tooth-pick.

THank you so much Beverly..I think it is a combination of place and paint and palette that defines the canvas. I actually do not try to copy their style but the above factors seem to define what the finished painting must look like ...
