Description
I strolled around the old Brown’s Bay Camp ground around noon after completing “Bridge to Chimney Island”. I warmed up my hands sufficiently to feel like painting again. I had paddled Jones Creek many times as a boy so this was like coming home again. The Brown’s Bay Camp ground is on north side of “The Parkway” alias “King's Highway 2S” and south of Jones Creek.
I set up at Campsite 108 looking north. The site was very “vacant” although it still had the official campsite post and number. The trees that lined the limestone cliff were like a vertical blind that only allowed the scene of the creek to peek through here and there. This was an unusual composition for me to paint. It was fun though and I painted what I saw.
Several people were walking there dogs and they (the dogs - not the people) all came up to see what I was doing.
By the time I was done, it was overcast nimbostratus and on the verge of rain.
I had to transform this into a larger format... #0934 "The Sun of Jones Creek". I tired very hard to keep the high energy level in the 3x4 foot canvas!

The mesh of sky reaching, foliage free trees adds an interesting dimension to this deeply color saturated scene, Phil!
Phil Chadwick replied:
Thank you Susan. This screened format is something I like to try every now and again. It is a challenge to keep your colours clean :>)
