Description
It was raining hard outside but I had time to paint - so it turned out to be a studio day. I used a lot of paint on this small and very rough masonite panel. This is the other, eastern end of the trip that the original Mr. Singleton used to make twice a day to milk his cows.
Sometime in the 1800's, the original Mr. Singleton would twice a day walk from the stone farm house southwest of the lake to a small building on a point of land poking into the southwestern corner of the lake that now bears his name. He would row his boat across the lake with two pails probably arriving very near where these trees now stand. The one way trip was about a kilometre. Once on the eastern shore of Singleton Lake, he would locate and milk his cows and fill his two pails. He would then retrace his path back to the stone farm house. I would expect that his journey would take at least two hours. The fine stone house was probably bult by the same masons and craftmen who worked on the locks of the 202 km long Rideau Canal system completed by November 1831.
Apparently the remains of the small building can still be found on this point of land which is very nearly an island. I used a lot of paint and choppy brush work to record this image on a small and very rough panel.
