Artist's Description

This is number forty-three of forty-six in the Canoe Lake Paddle as numbered along the path of the paddle.

This is the mid afternoon sky on Canoe Lake. The cold low was still spinning to the west but the next surge of precipitation was almost upon me. The nimbostratus tends to curl upward on the leading edge because I suppose that the rain is just light at that location. The darker bases of the nimbostratus were related to the much thicker cloud depth above. I was headed back anyway and I figured that I had enough time to finish my adventure and exploration of every nook and cranny of Canoe Lake. It started to rain really hard just as I was putting "Margaritaville" on top of my 2004 Subaru Forester.

I used a lot of paint on a very slippery surface. The colours and the shapes make the scene and I tried not to fiddle with the brush strokes.

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
