Artist's Description

This is a view looking southward toward the lighthouse and buildings at Cape Spear. The cirrus cloud and pieces of altocumulus framed the lighthouse very nicely. The clouds have their own story to tell.
From the rugged point of Cape Spear light the next piece of land to the east is Ireland. All of North America lies to the west.

Cape Spear Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse in the Newfoundland andLabrador. Constructed in 1836, the Cape Spear Lighthouse represents the unique architecture of lighthouse construction during that era. The structure consists of a stone light tower surrounded by the lightkeeper's residence. In 1955 a new lighthouse tower was built on the site using the active light from the original lighthouse. Generations of the Cantwell family resided at Cape Spear for over 150 years and worked tirelessly to maintain a light so vital to mariners.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
