I do not often paint architecture but as I mentioned to the Rideau Lakes Artist Association, everything is just shapes and lines filled in with colours.
Art does not need to be a mystery. It does need to be an interpretation of the inspiration though and I hope I achieved that with this view of the small boat houses on the channel leading into Chaffey's Locks. These structures were sandwiched between the water and the road. The trees that lined the road cast their midday shadows across the buildings in a dappled display of summer heat and colour. A lone cumulus cloud poked up into the ridge of high pressure on the northwestern horizon.

A Hillman
Wonderful! Pure and refreshing color and such fascinating forms...in my opinion, you could paint a plein air scene of just cardboard boxes of various sizes on the ground and it would be great! As long as there is light and some sky and/ or water, you would have have the makings of a great painting. Fantastic work, Phil Chadwick!
Phil Chadwick replied:
You are by greatest inspiration Sunny! Thank you. I will get back to plein air soon :>)

A wonderful sparing match between the shadows and the light on the boat houses, Phil! I love how the green hues swim in the foreground.
