Description
It was hot and humid in the southwesterly flow. I was sweating just standing still. The ruffed grouse were still drumming but maybe they were really just fanning themselves.
This was the CPAWS Lane to the DRAW Camp. There were no cars or tents in sight. I had pitched my tent in the same place as Becky and Reid. The small clearing was on soft needles and high ground. A bunch of small trees surrounded the clearing and any tall and heavy trees that might be uprooted or blown down where not too nearby. The little trees offered some protection. The thunderstorms would return again and I did not want to take any undue chances.
I liked the different colours in the sand and the dirt. There were even discernible tread patterns in the soil. The sunlit clearing was where most of us parked our cars. Only the CPAWS truck was allowed down this lane for deliveries. The ease of convenience with the truck made sense. The blue sky poked through some holes in the forest canopy. I wanted to create a flow in this landscape and did so with the brush and the lean of the pines.
