Artist's Description
This was the morning of Day Three of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) supported DRAW (Dumoine River Art for Wilderness) 2019. We were all eco-artists trying to assist with the awareness of the importance of wilderness in modern society.
Rain was on the way. The summer warm front that had been on the western horizon was now overhead. The overcast skies provided a relief from the heat of the August sun. The colours of the landscape changed accordingly. I wanted to record the different signatures of the current on the surface of the Dumoine and how these reflected the light. The opposite shore was backlit and dark. I paint what I see.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...

Thank you so very much Sunil!

So cool how the golden yellow on the left is in perfect contrast to the bit of teal on the right...astounding colors here and of course, the shapes and reflections are so beautiful and simplified enough to be quite abstract and yet the whole thing is very real...a great glimpse of the time and day and atmosphere...gorgeous work, Mr. Chadwick! l/f
Phil Chadwick replied:
So very kind of you Sunny. That was a sculpted beach of coarse sand in the back eddy of the Dumoine. Can you imagine swimming there? It was beautiful enough to paint there but the swimming was terrific too.
