Yes, I see now...so cool! The ground in a lot of your work really pulls everything together and then the "stabs'' of the orange and red make the whole thing just sparkle....absolutely love the effect! So much life!

Phil Chadwick replied:

I attribute the life to finishing it en plein air. There is no time to take the life out of the brush work. Just do it:>) Polishing the strokes is not required. Thanks Sunny!

I really like the reds, too, because they make the greens pop and look so fresh, but I always thought that the red was the ground that you are starting your canvases with...maybe not. On this one, which is magnificent, by the way, it looks like the red is sometimes peeking through from the ground and also that some of the red and the foreground orange are added to the same layer as the browns and greens. I am hoping you will share, unless of course, it's one of your secrets! Anyway, it's a lovely study of forms and hues and light....just love it, Mr. Chadwick! Bravo!

Phil Chadwick replied:

Red Green is my favourite comic and is how I simply remember those complementary colors. The ground was actually burnt sienna and I felt it did not do the job of sparking the green (red) or the blues of the water and sky and white pine which needed the orange. I rarely try to make things better in the studio when I get home. It never seems to work out. I rely on the spontaneity of the moment. Thank you so much Sunny.

Really like the use of the reds!! Fantastic!! :)C

Phil Chadwick replied:

Thank you Christine. I like to put stabs of shocking colour.. and sometimes those hues are even there in the nature of the scene. Sometimes not :>)
