Description
This is an unusual subject for me. A leaning tree almost along the diagonal of the canvas should be breaking all or at least some of the compositional rules. I guess that is why I decided to give it a try. I was pretty sure that this was a very old but unfortunately dead red cedar on the verge of toppling into the water. Once there in the lake, it would be recycled and provide lots of good habitat for the marine critters.
The westerly winds were bringing in chillier air behind the cold front. The stratocumulus clouds were more cumulus in nature because of the unstable air mass. The sun was on my left shoulder and thus the clouds were largely front lit. There can be no sun glint and no white-line with this orientation of light and water. I used the lifted condensation level of the cumulus to ride the lower third while the darker base of a taller cumulus provided the upper third.
