Description
This was the first Southampton demonstration piece for day one of Wind Waves and Weather 2011. There were 11 participants in the course. We were painting on Chantry Island.
This is the view toward the west looking along the path leading to Chantry Light from the dock. Chantry Island was voted Canada’s Top Hidden Travel Gem in 2010 through an online contest run by the Canadian Tourism Commission “Locals Know”. Tobermory won this award in 2009. A strong westerly wind made the ride out very rough with 4 foot waves. Cirrostratus streaks on the western horizon heralded the next weak system passing through the upper ridge. The cirrostratus was arranged in gravity waves perpendicular to the upper level winds like waves on a lake. The deformation zone leading the thin moisture across Southampton had already moved to our east. A piece of cumulus fractus drifted through while I was painting. The participants wanted me to include this as well as the half moon - which I did.
