Description
The cumulus just above the white pine trio on Long Reach Lane was remarkably active for dawn. The flat base suggested organized lift as evidenced by its height. The cumulus were loosely organized in the series of gravity waves but none of the other cumulus clouds were nearly as organized or active.
The higher altocumulus waves were thinner and gray and in the dark from other clouds on the eastern horizon. Only the higher cirrostratus could see the rising sun. I suspect that the low level winds were southeasterly . These winds would veer with height due to decreasing friction and probably warm air advection associated with the approaching system. The cirrostratus would thicken up as the warm conveyor belt became more established over Singleton Lake. This system would likely be dry for the parched landscape of eastern Ontario. The thunderstorms along the warm front would be focussed south of the St Lawrence River. The drought would continue. The clouds tell the stories of the winds and the weather. We just need to slow down and pay attention to the clouds.
