Description
I had not yet heard any thunder but it was certainly on its way. The cirrus anvils quickly filled the summer sky and I had turned my kayak for home. It was still debatable whether I would make it home before the storm hit - it was still another half hour of paddling - maybe a bit less if I worked at it.
The cumulonimbus towers were tipped over with the wind shear. The flanking lines were also very active, short and steep. I could not see any overshooting tops of the convection poking into the stratosphere. There certainly would be some heavy rain and strong wind gusts. I suspect there was a hail shaft with the central cumulonimbus and I painted it into the artwork. Hail shafts are milky white pillars coming from the rear portions of forward flank downdraft. In my painting the darker rain behind the hail shaft is what makes the hail visible.
The humour in this title is that of course you can't see thunder. Thunder is just the sound. Lightning is what you can see. Lightning does the work. I guess this is an example of unfunny, meteorological humour.
