Description
I was “Artist in Residence” and “Tom Thomson” for the day at the McMichael Art Gallery. The day happened to be Sunday September 30th, 2007 . This was to commemorate the 1927 meeting between Emily Carr and the Group of Seven. Of course, Tom Thomson had died a decade previously but that didn’t bother Emily much.
I set up right in front of the gallery with the sun on my back and the light on the forest wall in front of me. I was painting within minutes of arriving. The stand of spruce and deciduous trees was remarkable when the light broke through the turbulent stratocumulus cloud cover.
Many people stopped and visited and I tried to make them laugh and enjoy the moment outside in the weather.
