Description
I was up and very busy painting on the last morning of the CPAWS Dumoine River Art Camp - it was the August Holiday Monday. I was down to my last few panels from my canoe pack. This is a very rough piece of sealed masonite with a thin wash of white gesso tint. I was painting on the coarse and textured side so there was little or no chance of including too much detail in the final painting. It was perfect for the plein air occasion.
The sun was now up and no longer blinding. As a result I turned to look back up-current to paint where the Grande Chute enters into the widening of the Dumoine River referred to as Robinson Lake. The surface winds were still calm but there were stronger southerly winds aloft that would eventually make it to easel level. The backlit morning clouds told that weather tale. The shadowed sides of the distant shoreline were dark and full of intrigue. What was around the upstream bend. I knew because I had walked and swam there.
