Description
There is really no such thing as just another sunrise. I know that I have said this in relation to sunsets but the same applies. Trust me. I have witnessed a lot of sunrises and I never get tired of them. This was another day with no mistakes in it - yet. The festivities of the holidays were winding down and 2017 had arrived as just another day - so to speak. The sun will come up no matter what is happening in the world outside of SIngleton.
There are two main deformation zones in this sunrise. The deck of retreating altocumulus over me was bounded on the west by a deformation zone. Very weak lift had the pieces of cloud arranged like eggs in a egg cartoon. That is the most efficient way to arrange gentle ascent and balance it with weaker descent. These clouds were not likely going to last long even with the weak January sun. The thicker altocumulus in this layer to the north was distinctly darker and browner because of the colours of the sunrise I suppose. They actually did look that way.
The higher level deformation zone on the lower, southwestern horizon was the leading edge of the warm conveyor belt that was fuelling the next winter storm. The cloud clues were as clear as day - well, as clear as sunrise. One just need to take the time to enjoy them and to decipher what they were saying.
The reflection of the sky on the open water of Jim Day Rapids was very different in texture and colour from the appearance of the snow covered ice.
I used a moderate amount of very old paint on this canvas panel. The colours and the shapes make the scene and I tried not to fiddle too much with the brush strokes.
