Description
A winter storm was on the way. A light easterly cold conveyor belt wind was blowing. The ripples on the sheltered shore of Singleton Lake were small but subtle Langmuir streaks were setting up.
Meanwhile the warm conveyor belt was approaching from the west. The leading edge of the cirrostratus was already well to the east of Singleton Lake. The thicker altostratus was just about to obscure the setting sun. Crepuscular rays cast through the cloud are actually parallel although they look like they strongly diverge. It is the same optical illusion one gets by looking along a train track. The train tracks certainly do not diverge either.
The banded nature of the layers of altostratus suggested that it was quickly thickening to the point when that cloud could be called nimbostratus. The precipitation was not far away according to the story written in the clouds.
