Artist's Description
I have painted here before... #1591 "Outlet Boat Houses" #1636 "Outlet Reflections" #1637 "Charleston Boat Houses" and maybe a few more times. I forget. It is a great place to paint out of the wind. There is poison ivy though and I have to be careful.
The black flies were hovering but they were not yet biting in the late afternoon heat. The opportunity to paint was too much to pass up so I painted. This is not a skyscape but the line of cirrus on the northern horizon of the sky tells the forecast. This deformation zone cirrus was being stretched as I painted. The line of cloud was moving northward as the leading edge of the warm conveyor belt associated with a low pressure system approached from the southwest. We would get rain out of this storm so it was best that I painted en plein air while I could.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...

Beautiful painting Phil! Engaging movement, reflections, and rich hues make this an eye catching piece!
Phil Chadwick replied:
Ahhh... thank you so much Susan. It has been a week and I need to paint again. So kind of you!
