Description
Tom Thomson probably sat on this rock and painted with his small sketch box. That is why I didn't try to hide the rock in the composition. It was indeed a very impressive and comfortable hunk of granite. If Tom didn't sit on this monument to paint, I would be very surprised. My view also included the low pink hunk of granite known as Duck Rock which is Zhiishiib Rock in Ojibwe. The distant land is apparently Huckleberry Island, part of the largest freshwater archipelago of 30,000 islands. Tom's art was a skyscape but I turned mine into a landscape with a high horizon - I needed to include the boulder in order to tell the story. After all, art is all about telling a story.

Like the colour choices, the strong design and the energy and movement created by the vigorous diagonal strokes. Great stuff!!!
