Description
I was on what turned out to be a marathon paddle. It took quite a while to decide where the half way point of my paddle was. Half way is when you decide to turn back. It turned out to be a four hour paddle, longer than the trip around Gilligan's Island.
This painting is from 10:30 am on that Wednesday August 3rd, 2016. I was on my way back and was attracted to the vacant cottage on the west shore of the west basin of Red Horse Lake. This cottage is only accessible by boat. Roddick's Lane ends a half kilometre to the south. Roddick's Lane is a challenging piece of road even during the summer. The terrain around Red Horse Lake is exceedingly rough.
The sun was getting high in the sky and the low bands of cumulus were largely front lit. The quasi-stationary front was still sprawled west to east across southern Ontario and I suspect that these cloud bands were due to gravity waves with the southerly winds of the warm conveyor belt riding along and over the warm frontal surface. The light easterly breeze was the cold conveyor belt flowing beneath the warm frontal surface. This analysis was supported by the fact that the clouds were lower to the south and got progressively higher along the northern horizon.
I was paddling like I was on holidays which is difficult to discern when you are already retired. The people who owned the cottage should have been on holidays as well.
