A very energetic piece Phil! The tide scurries to the lighthouse shore as the clouds tumble across the sky!

Phil Chadwick replied:

You have captured the point Susan... it takes a lot of energy to paint. I am tired at the end of a day :>)

Artist's Description

This is the third demonstration piece for the second week of teaching at the Southampton Art School. I arrived early at our predetermined painting place on the north shore of the Saugeen River. I was there by 8 pm and the course "Making Waves in Oils" wasn't scheduled to start until 9 am. Scubby's Hill overlooks the Saugeen Harbour and Chantry Island and Light. One participant and her family arrived soon afterward so I did this demonstration piece for them. The three little girls were very attentive and supportive.

The view is southwesterly with streets of turbulent stratocumulus and lots of waves. It was pleasant as the bugs were being blown far downstream but the cold winds were blocked a bit by the trees.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
