Description
The winds were light and the sun was bright. I decided to head out after minus twenty-something temperatures had kept me in the studio. Indeed the temperatures were a balmy minus 8 Celsius.
I stood on the marble point that sticks out into Jim Day Rapids. Looking westward, one could see the far shore of Singleton Lake and the forest of our point. A raccoon had left tracks in the snow before they had frozen into hard ice. There were a multitude of colours to be seen in this scene and I feel that this is the strong point behind plein air painting. There is nothing between you and your interpretation of the colours that you see. Colours make the scene and not the details.
The ice was rumbling like a pod of great blue whales having a long conversation. I am pretty sure there are no whales in Singleton Lake. A raven kept a close eye on me - but the three or four croaks of warning gradually changed to single caws of normal conversation. I guess the ravens had decided that I was harmless albeit a bit crazy.
It was cold enough when the wind came up to force me to put on my gloves. Gloves really force you to forget the details. Cirrostratus was invading the sky from the southwest heralding a low pressure area. Anyway, it was fun. The title is a play on "Singleton" and the distinct colours of the various layers of ice and snow. It was too cold for the cat to accompany me on this outing ...
