Artist's Description
I set my easel in the living room of our home-to-be on Singleton Lake. This will be the view from comfy chairs and it is a singular view for sure! The weather was cool at 6 Celsius and became chillier when a brisk westerly breeze developed. The overcast stratocumulus cleared with only a small patch left on the western horizon. This patch of front lit stratocumulus also dissolved during the painting. A large flock of mallards flushed out of the water’s edge when I approached and continued to wheel overhead while I painted.
I locked in the colours and tones about half-way into the painting. My hands got cold but the sun felt really good on my back!
Started Tuesday morning 9 am, November 13th, 2007. We built starting in 2010 and it is still ongoing - is one ever done?
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...

Lovely view Phil! Beautiful colors and composition!
Phil Chadwick replied:
On this Thanksgiving I am among the luckiest people around. This is my view every morning. I never get tired of painting it. Thank you Susan.
