Description
I went out to paint the afternoon light. A sheet of stratocumulus shielded the direct sunlight. The sounds of spring were still in the air but his time there were also basking turtles and a swarm of tiny spiders sailing on threads of web. I wanted to capture the colours of the spring forest on the north shore of the east basin of Singleton Lake. Of course, I also wanted to accurately depict the stratocumulus. The easterly wind being drawn into the approaching low pressure area was being funnelled between the northeast to southwest ridges of the Frontenac Arch. These gentle breezes produced interesting patterns in the surface of the water. The calm areas reflected the darker forested shoreline while the rippled surface reflected the slightly brighter stratocumulus clouds.
The larger scale gravity wave circulations in the system can be see in the visible imagery, superimposed on the westerly streets of turbulent stratocumulus.
This completes the trio of spring paintings done around Jim Day Rapids. The other two are number 1918 Spring Morning Jim Day and number 1919 Entrance to Jim Day.
