Description
I was interested in the countless vertical lines in the swamp. A large and very old beaver dam at the northeastern end of this pond had long, ago drowned the edge of the forest along the original stream. The standing corpses are a testament to the remains of that forest. Some of the trees were tipping over into the deeper water. I wanted to use a lot of paint on this canvas and have some fun while getting back into the swing of studio painting. I found the panel a bit hard for my liking and was wishing for a stretched panel. Snowsqualls and blustery northwesterly winds dominated the weather outside. The wood stove was more than warm inside. The summer is not the time to paint plein air in a swamp. The biting insects would have sucked me dry.
