Description
The title sounds like the very poetic "Sunset Sails" of an imagery schooner backlit by a crimson sunset. These are actually cloud creatures that I saw at 8 pm on the evening of Sunday August 28th, 2016. I saw a snail first and then it transformed into a galloping horse soon to be followed by a stallion pulling a chariot. There might have been a camel in there as well - I couldn't be certain.
The clouds also spoke of a convective rain event on the way. Showers and thunderstorms would arrive by dawn on Monday. The cirrus of the warm conveyor belt were being pulled southward. This meant that the main trust of this system was way to the north over the Nickle Belt. That is were the bulk of the precipitation would fall. The low level winds were southwesterly and those are what moved my imaginary menagerie along. The clouds always have a story to tell.
A fishing boat was just heading home from an excursion. The wake of the boat and the small fishing motor is reflected by the relative calm triangle that has the boat at its receding apex. The calm water was reflecting the higher and brighter portion of the sunset sky. This patch of water could be a sunset sail attached to the motor boat - it is shaped like a sail.
I used a lot of oil on this very smooth surface. Sometimes the type of surface can really influence your style. This painting will take a year to cure.
