Description
I like water lilies. These Nuphar lutea (Yellow Water-lily, Brandy-Bottle) from Singleton Lake were native to temperate regions of Europe, northwest Africa, and western Asia. This aquatic plant grows in shallow water and wetlands, with its roots in the sediment and its leaves floating on the water surface. The stems can grow in water up to 5 metres deep. As in this case it is usually found in shallower water than the white water lily, and often in beaver ponds. The species is less tolerant of water pollution than water-lilies in the genus Nymphaea so the waters of Singleton Lake must still be pretty good. I think water quality could always be better. I painted this intending the viewer to look into the depths and the source of the lily.
