Artist's Description
It was a record breaking day for November. The temperature got up to near 22 Celsius thus breaking the old record of 20.1 or so for this date. It was sunny and warm and I couldn't waste the afternoon. I had noticed some colourful tamaracks in a swampy area north of the Nineteenth Sideroad of King Township so I headed there to paint before the sun set behind the trees. The trees were all in a tangle. There were two white cedars that were laying down across the scene with a jumble of tamaracks in behind. Some poplars and white birches were in behind all of this. I liked the way that the cerulean blue sky was a strong patchwork behind the colour of the trees. Around 4 pm when I stepped back to see what I had done, I was pleased with the comparison. Up close, the strokes and colours looked like a bit of a tangle but stepping back, the painting looked like the scene and vice versa.
