Artist's Description

The skies were crystal clear on the morning of Wednesday September 13th, 2000. There was absolutely no wind due to the radiational inversion and the strong subsidence with the ridge of high pressure. I headed out with my paints looking for a suitable subject. I climbed a ridge overlooking the "cornerstone" of McCrae Lake. If any hunk of rock identifies McCrae, this is it. It stands at the eastern entrance to the main portion of the lake and is distinctive in shape. The water was like a mirror until around 11 am when the first hint of cumulus appeared and brought the upper winds down to the surface.

After completing the painting I went had had a snooze on the very top of the rock. It was a beautiful September day with a nice breeze.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
