Around 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 7th, 2007 I started to head out to the back hill but wound up wandering around trying to find something to paint. I ended up on the front hill instead and was inspired by the way the light and clouds were poking through the pines and spruces. These white spruce were planted by George Craib and myself in April 1993. He had more trees than he had land for and he graciously landed on the steps of the old farm house with his tree planter and a bag of trees. The white spruce were all in the ground within a couple of hours. This is what almost fourteen years of growth looks like on a tree that was barely 10 inches in total length back in 1993.
The bluebird house is one that my Dad built and it gets used every year. We have more blue birds now than ever and once they were rare. Build it and they will come. I have about 200 bird houses on the property now. I built the predator cone and it is essential for the safety of the birds.
