Description
Puffy white clouds drift across a blue sky above a serene landscape featuring a forest bordering a calm river. The scene exudes tranquility with its lush greenery and reflective water surface.
I thought that I would finish off the day with a final weather observation. This one was painted from the fire pit of John's Cabin looking northward and upstream on the Dumoine. A group of trippers ran the rapids just as I set up. One of the DRAW participants was quietly paddling an aluminum canoe in front of Pincushion Island.
A characteristic dead pine tree stood at a point on the western shore. Someone had carefully placed a birdhouse in a hollow of that tree. I just painted what I saw. I could not see the birdhouse from the distance but had admired it up close from my canoe.
The towering cumulus were losing their energy as the sun lowered in the western sky. The clouds leaned over with the westerly winds. It was going to be a pleasant evening with clear skies overnight. It was time to rest for another full day of painting.
This is number fifteen of thirty-five paintings I completed en plein air at CPAWS DRAW 2024. It was a wonderful experience with a terrific group of people. https://cpaws-ov-vo.org/draw-retreat-artists/ A portion of sales from this endeavour will go to support CPAW and keep the 'wild' in the wilderness.
