Description
This is the first demonstration piece for "Making Waves on Chantry" 2007. Myself and twelve participants (disciples? That would make me a humourous side-kick as I am certainly not the second coming!) were stationed on the round rock beach in front of Chantry Light looking toward the southwest. The morning was overcast in stratus over the land with thick fog over the water. We executed a loop in the "Peerless" on the way to the island in the thick fog. GPS got us back on course. There were about twenty drops of rain from an embedded towering cumulus in the morning but that was all. The official forecast of "Showers and Thunderstorms" was a complete bust as the trough line was still well to the west. Oh well!
I focused on the light keeper's cottage and the explains the title for this work. The muted, foggy colours are nostalgic for the lives that were lived and lost on the island. It would have been a simple paradise.
I used emerald green to sign my name. In an earlier class, I had explained with a straight face that I always mix my own "greens". When I was making the palette I had squeezed on a dollop of emerald green which is a tough colour to mix - just in case I needed it. Carol called me on it. One has to laugh! I hardly used it during the painting so thought I had better use it somewhere - so I used it for my name!
