Artist's Description

Sunday morning dawned to the spruce wall of the neighbouring forest as mostly white instead of dark spruce green. The winds had cranked around to the west just before dawn and I was afraid that the wind would strip the spruce of their snow load and their branches as well. We lost some branches from the Scotch Pines in the front yard. So I started right after breakfast to capture the scene before it blew away. First though I had to scrape the snow off the bird feeders and top them up as the birds were having a tough time getting their own breakfast. The temperatures were still hovering around freezing so it wasn't too bad.

The storm was still cranking and I would not get the Massey Ferguson tractor out much later after it subsides.

The combination of the sticky east and then west wind had coated the steel fence rails in snow. That is why they are so white.
