Artist's Description
I was doing some spring canoeing on the St Lawrence near the mouth of Jones Creek. It was one of those rare spring days that just had to be enjoyed.
The flagged pine on the tip of Green (A) Island will be the home to some osprey. This is the "flag" in the title. I didn't include the tip of the pine - for their privacy although they did not seem to care one way or the other about my presence. They were carrying sticks and grasses for their nest. Although the nest was progressing nicely, they may not even use it this year as they continue to practice for the real event.
Three old jet contrails were laid down by high fliers on their way to the eastern seaboard of the United States - probably around New York City. I liked the way that the contrails spread out into block hieroglyphics in the sky - probably telling the message that continued pollution in the upper atmosphere was hiding the clear blue of the sky.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
