Lovely painting Phil! I love the dancing clouds and expressive trees, anchored by the 'turtle rock'!

Phil Chadwick replied:

Thank you so much Susan. The surface is coarse weave masonite which allowed me to forget about any detail.

Artist's Description

Water is the great leveler. The water etches the marble on the shoreline leaving an indelible record of the comings and going of precipitation and the seasons. This huge slope of marble on the southern shore of Singleton Lake has recorded the extremes in water levels since the time of the retreating glaciers. The etchings are not time stamped unfortunately so we do not really know exactly when these extremes occurred and reoccurred. The Cataraqui Conservation Authority really drained the lake down in preparation for the spring run-off of 2015. They did not wish to repeat the flooding of 2014 and are trying their best to keep everyone happy - an impossible task.

I love this type of early morning sky with tufts of stratus fractus still hanging on inspite of the sun attempting to burn it away.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
