I was paddling the north shore of George Lake in Killarney Provincial Park in late July 2007. I was cruising as close to the shore as possible and having fun doing it. It amazes me how these pines manage to eke out a living from a crack in the white quartzite rock of Killarney.

The grinding of four successive ice ages transformed the range into a cluster of white-capped islands and low peaks, of which Silver Peak is the highest.
The pine isn't two billion years old but it is very old and much older than one might guess. I wish it well!
