This is a very atmospheric image with a strong sense of cold Phil! I am still shivering! :)

Phil Chadwick replied:

Thank you so much Susan... it was cold. I hope you are painting :>)) I am just headed out now.

Artist's Description

The Alberta Clipper finished moving through around noon. Strong and blustery winds developed and started to rearrange the snow that covered the ice of the St Lawrence River. The drifts of snow appeared like water waves. The snow and ice were many different subtle colours - don’t eat the yellow ice!

This view is looking straight southeast across the river from the 5th floor of “The Executive” in Brockville. The current was keeping a few open leads in the water. It would be a treacherous if not a wet walk across to the United States.

This painting was all about the colours of the snow covered ice and the turbulent stratocumulus on the American shore.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
