Description
This sky was looking at the same bands of cirrus as #1713 "December Morn" and #1714 "White Pine Island" but just at a later time and from a different direction. The diagnosis of the weather was the same. A warm conveyor belt was bringing heat and moisture from the southwest. These are the ingredients for a mid-latitude storm. From the radar view the rain was not very far to the northwest.
The clouds tell the story of the weather and all you really need to do is to learn the vocabulary. As a start every cloud line is either parallel or perpendicular to the wind and we all know as does Bob Dylan that "the answer my friend is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind." There is a lot of meteorology in this painting and the sky.
