Description
A summer frontal zone was sprawled southwest to northeast along the St Lawrence River. A flow of moisture was being pumped off the Gulf of Mexico. A series of short-waves were rippling along this front triggering convection in the unstable air mass. Most of these thunderstorms stayed to the south and the Singleton Lake area received nary a drop of precipitation. The drought continued and the trees were starting to suffer. Not much I could do except the very unattractive and ineffective rain dance.
This view is from 05:41 in the morning on Thursday July 28th, 2016 looking toward the northeast from the front door. The colours were changing by the second and I had to be fast. The cumulus fractus clouds were small and ragged due to the instability and wind shear. There were some gravity waves present in the very shallow, sloped warm frontal surface. The cloud was able to survive a bit long in the crests of these waves with the help of a little lift. The cloud was absent in the troughs due to decent descent.
