This is the Narrows leading from Long Reach into the western bay of Red Horse Lake. The channel is fairly narrow but it is deep enough and there are no obstructing rocks. I have often seen fairly large black rat snakes crossing the channel at this point or lounging on the marble shore. I have also witnessed northern water snakes curled up under the "Snake Crossing" sign. In the painting I can only include the back the the diamond shaped sign that was posted on the flag pole. Maybe snakes can read or maybe this crossing has been used for millennium.
At one time there used to be another outlet where the white garage is now parked. The small cottage was build on a bit of marble that was exposed in the larger outflow. The channel separating the mainland from the cottage was simply plugged.
