Artist's Description
A cluster of lily pads on Bass Lake, Restoule...July 30th or so, 1991. On a week long canoe/fishing trip with Paul Bartlett. There is a certain tension between the small, green bullfrog, the Hula Popper (that I found in a tree in the Holland Marsh) and a 2-3 lb, cautious northern pike which is just hinted at under the pads. Note the shape of the lily pad behind the Hula Popper...just like PacMan. In some ways, it is almost an abstract painting. I first thought of calling this painting, "Three's a Crowd" but Linda and the kids didn't like the title so Linda came up with the above. Linda also suggested "There's a Hooker in my Pad"...
Oils on stretched canvas - 18x14 - Fall 1991.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...

Oh my! This one definitely got past me - nicely done! The titling process cracked me up though I think you got it right. :)
Phil Chadwick replied:
So very kind of you Bruce! These paintings bring back a flood of precious memories. Isn't it great to paint these thoughts! Thanks!
