Artist's Description

This is where I found the fishing lure snagged on a branch in the current. The steam carved a ever changing path through the sand on the northwest corner of Gargantua Harbour. The fishing must be good. At the peak of the hamlet of Gargantua in the early 1900's the village would have included a cookery, an ice-making building, a twine shed, homes for the fishermen and lighthouse keeper plus some cottages for the summer tourists. The population was seasonal but would have tallied a few dozen souls. It was surprising to me that a century later, all of that was gone without leaving much of a trace. The fishing lure that I found was new and probably off the shelves of Canadian Tire.

About Phil Chadwick

Phil Chadwick

I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
