Artist's Description
I took the tractor back to the hill overlooking the beaver dam. This is looking westward from the trail starting at around 9 am on a beautiful autumn morning. The geese were flying out of the pond and the sun was just getting warm. The winds were still out of the north but not nearly as strong as the previous days. It was almost overcast with fat turbulent stratocumulus when I started but by the time I was done it was virtually clear. The daytime heating had raised the cloud bases up through the cloud tops. I locked the composition in somewhere in between. SC in the title is the meteorologist abbreviation for stratocumulus.
When I was done, I planted about 40 hickory nuts that my Dad had collected, They are at the bases of each fence post - both wood and steel and a couple of feet to the west. We will see what they look like in a couple of years. Like most things, I should have done this a couple of years ago.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
