This is the fourth demonstration piece for “Wind, Waves and Weather” 2007. The goal of this painting was to make everyone relax and to go bold and adventurous with their subject matter and paint.
The view is toward the north from the beach in front of Gerry’s Fast Foods at the foot of Beach Avenue in Southampton. I didn’t wish to paint into the sun and by now, the tops of my feet were getting sun burnt although I didn’t know it at the time. I spent my day walking up and down the beach helping as best I could. By the time we were finished painting around 4:30 pm... we were surrounded by bathers - plein air bathers!
This is bold subject matter for me as I don’t tend to put people in my art. Lynne is in the middle foreground, Denise has her back to me to the right. Fransisca is in the middle working on he bold island painting. Elizabeth is in the distance working on the willow. In between there are many, many plein air bathers who simple came and settled among us. I think they adm...
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
