Artist's Description
This is the fourth demonstration piece for "Making Waves on Chantry" 2007. The line of thunderstorms along the main trough of low pressure still remained to the west. I turned my easel around to keep the sun over my shoulder and back. This allowed me to paint the line of sailboats tied up to the private wharf on the south shore of the Saugeen River. The official forecast of "Showers and Thunderstorms" was stillmisguided. The frontal trough was really slow moving contrary to the numerical guidance.
I wanted to illustrate the painting of the subject matter by using the negative shapes. This applied to the sailboats, masts and trees. I also wanted to illustrate looking for the colours in the waters and trees. Water is not blue just like all trees are not green. It was fun! I finished this sketch on location around 5:30 pm... then headed for home. It was a great class - the participants where fun and bold painters!
Note that the Ojibway term for confluence of the waters...
