Artist's Description
This is the view looking northeast from a floating dock on Little Clear Lake in Limberlost just west of Algonquin Park. Linda and I were spending almost four days at a cottage and this was the first chance I had taken to paint. The rest of the time had been devoted to swimming, canoeing, hiking and fishing. It was beautiful autumn weather. Little Clear Lake is full of chunky small mouth bass and we caught two for supper after I finished this sketch.
It was about 9am and the sun exposure was changing rapidly. I captured the scene well enough though that the locals recognized the piece of shoreline right off. The colours and brush strokes in the original are really much more striking than in the photo.
The panel had been primed with dark coat of raw sienna.
About Phil Chadwick
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... Phil was born and raised along the St. Lawrence of Ontario, Canada and studied at Queens University as a nuclear physicist. A meteorologist for Environment Canada for 35 years, Phil specializes in severe weather and training. Remote sensing is his forte - you might want to see a tornado before you die... but not just before you die! He has farmed, raised bees, written books and articles, lectured and instructed...
