I often wonder about the secret life of trees. New science and research confirms that their life and roots are much more entwined and deeper than you could ever imagine. The older trees like this one would have quite a story to tell. All of nature is inter-connected and humans have forgotten or at least ignored this simple fact.
Science has proved that neighboring trees help each other through their root systems. This assistance can be achieved directly through intertwined roots or indirectly by growing fungal networks around the roots that serve as a sort of extended nervous system connecting separate trees. These forest relationships are even more complex as they appear able to distinguish their own roots from those of other species and even of their own relatives.
Forests should be stress free zones and it is where I can escape to really relax and create. The new practice of forest bathing has nothing to do with water but with immersing yoursel...
I paint outside - nothing between my eyes and the inspiration. That special connectivity gets into the pigments and you quickly realize that we are all stewards of the land, privileged to appreciate its beauty during our lifetime but responsible for leaving the environment better off for the future and all inhabitants... A Hillman
So happy you have been able to paint this scene again and again...it's wonderful and another example of how color and shapes that are abstract can create a reality that is truly feels like the atmosphere of the outdoors...love the description. Plein air is definitely your forte, Phil Chadwick! This is a beautiful, sparkling, and uplifting painting! l/f
Phil Chadwick replied:
You are very observant and astute Sunny. I think your comments are right. In the studio I have the time and patience required to try to make everything perfect.. but en plein air, the changing light, weather and the bugs tell me when I had best call it finished. The beauty can be found n the imperfections. Thank yo so much for this!
