Description
The morning fog and mist lifted in a hurry under the strong August sun. I had to retreat into the shade after completing #2160 "Grande Chute Misty Morning". The heat and humidity in the prolonged southwesterly flow off the Gulf of Mexico was stifling. Meteorologists call the pattern an atmospheric river and it transports more energy than the mighty Dumoine. Thunderstorms were certainly going to visit DRAW again. I could clearly envision myself headed to the swimming pools of the Dumoine again. The serpent rock of the special swimming hole was evident and reminded me of where I might swim.
I liked the way that the thicker swirls of mist rose from the forest like columns of smoke. The vapours, water and atmosphere were all fluids in constant motion. We required these tracers to appreciate just how these fluids intertwined. My goal was to put the energy of the scene into the oils. The rough panel might have helped in this quest as niddlely details that kill energy were impossible on the coarse grain.
This was the 141st anniversary of the birth of Tom Thomson on August 5th, 1877. What better way to spend the day but to paint Canada en plein air...
